# Age verification

Declare a minimum age on the order and let Kustom enforce it — a banner in the checkout, BankID verification against the customer's national identification number and a name check against the buyer.

Available in Norway and Sweden. **Enable it on your account first** by contacting
[merchant@kustom.co](mailto:merchant@kustom.co).

## Declare a minimum age

```json
{
  "options": {
    "verify_age": {
      "minimum_age": 18
    }
  }
}
```

Kustom then enforces it: a banner in the checkout states the requirement, the customer is
verified through BankID against their national identification number for every payment
method, and the name on the verification is checked against the buyer. A customer who
doesn't meet the age is blocked from completing the purchase.

## The two older options

These remain supported but are no longer the recommended approach, because they collect or
verify identity **without enforcing an age**:

- `options.national_identification_number_mandatory` requires the customer to enter their national identification number. Reading it back from the Order Management API needs a specific agreement with Kustom, and requiring it measurably costs conversion.
- `options.verify_national_identification_number` additionally validates that number through a third party such as BankID.

Prefer `verify_age` for new integrations. It's the only one of the three that answers the
question you actually have.
