Activate Kustom Checkout on your platform
The one activation procedure shared by around twenty-five e-commerce platforms — apply, pass KYC, generate API credentials in the Kustom Portal, paste them into your platform's payment settings and place a test order before going live.
Nearly every platform that ships a Kustom Checkout plugin activates it the same way. You apply for a Kustom merchant account, pass KYC, generate a username and password in the Kustom Portal and enter them in the platform’s payment settings. This page is that procedure written once, with a table of the admin menu path for each platform, plus the variations for platforms that start onboarding from their own admin instead. If you run WooCommerce, Magento/Adobe Commerce, OXID eShop or PrestaShop, use the dedicated page for your platform instead — those plugins have enough platform-specific detail to need one.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”You need:
- An active store on a platform listed in the platform catalogue, with admin access to its payment settings.
- Your company registration details and the identity documents of the beneficial owners, for KYC.
- A bank account for payouts.
- Terms and conditions and a privacy policy published on your store. Several platforms won’t complete activation without them, and the checkout links to your terms.
- Your store reachable over HTTPS. Kustom sends server-to-server callbacks to it.
Check which activation model applies to your platform in the catalogue table before you start.
If it says platform-led, skip to Variations — you begin inside your store
admin, not at kustom.co, and you’ll never handle API credentials by hand.
Step by step
Section titled “Step by step”1. Apply for a Kustom merchant account
Section titled “1. Apply for a Kustom merchant account”Fill in the onboarding form at
portal.kustom.co/onboarding, or use the Get started
option in the top right corner of kustom.co.
2. Complete your application in the Kustom Portal
Section titled “2. Complete your application in the Kustom Portal”Sign in to the Kustom Portal with the email address you used in the application, and supply anything the application still asks for. If Kustom needs more from you, you’ll be contacted by email.
3. Pass KYC verification
Section titled “3. Pass KYC verification”Upload the verification documents Kustom asks for — typically identification for the responsible people, company registration certificates, beneficial owner information and bank account details for payouts. Kustom reviews and approves the account once the documents are in.
Approval times differ by platform because the platforms batch their requests differently: around 48 hours on MyCashflow, a few days to a week on Finqu and one to two weeks on Mystore. Treat those as indications, not commitments.
4. Generate API credentials
Section titled “4. Generate API credentials”In the Kustom Portal, go to Developers → API and click Generate new. You get two values:
- An API username, also shown as UID, Key ID or Merchant ID depending on which platform’s field you’re filling in.
- An API password, also called the shared secret or API secret.
Save the password immediately. It’s shown once and can’t be retrieved later. Only Portal users with the admin or super-admin role can open Developers. If you can’t see it, ask your account owner.
Generate credentials in the environment you intend to use. The playground Portal at portal.playground.kustom.co issues test credentials. The live Portal issues production ones. They aren’t interchangeable.
5. Enter the credentials in your platform
Section titled “5. Enter the credentials in your platform”Find your platform below and follow the path. In every case you’re looking for a payment method called Kustom Checkout, adding it, pasting the two credentials and setting it active.
| Platform | Where the setting lives | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Askås | You don’t enter them yourself | Send the Merchant ID and API credentials to the Askås team, and they complete the technical setup |
| Centra | Stores Management → Stores → your Retail store → Plugins → Add plugin method | Select the plugin listed as Klarna Checkout V3, enter the credentials, set Status to Active, save |
| E37 | E-handel → Kassa → Betalsätt → Lägg till betalsätt | Set Payment Module to Kustom Checkout, then fill Användarnamn (UID) and Lösenord |
| Flowshop | Apps → install Kustom under payment providers | Merchant ID takes the Key ID, API Secret takes the password |
| Geins | Payment module settings in the Geins admin | Enter the credentials and configure the module. Ask Geins support if you can’t find the payment settings |
| Kodmyran | Inställningar → Betalningar → Kustom Checkout | Tick Aktiv, save with Spara, then reopen the module to fill in settings |
| Litium | Settings → System settings → Apps → the Kustom payment app | Your Litium Solution Partner installs the app and produces a configuration file that contains the credentials, and you upload it under Configuration |
| Norce | Norce Checkout Admin → the Kustom Checkout Adapter | Set apiSettings.apiUrl, apiSettings.username, apiSettings.password |
| Nordisk e-handel | Order → Payment Methods → Skapa nytt betalsätt | In step 3 of the wizard, link the payment method to Kustom Checkout and enter the API keys |
| Nyehandel | Kassan (Checkout) → Hantera betalsätt → Kustom Checkout → Installera | Fill Användarnamn and Lösenord, then click Install |
| Spiris | Webshop → Inställningar → Betalsätt → Skapa nytt betalsätt | Select Kustom Checkout, enter the credentials, set the method active |
| Starweb | You don’t enter them yourself | Contact Starweb Support to enter the API keys against your store |
| Talex | You don’t enter them yourself | Send the credentials to Talex through their contact form |
| Vendre | Settings → Payment methods → Add payment method | Enter Merchant ID, API username and API password |
| Viskan | Payment module settings in the Viskan admin | Enter the credentials and configure the module. Ask Viskan support if you can’t find the payment settings |
6. Configure the checkout behavior
Section titled “6. Configure the checkout behavior”Beyond credentials, the settings that actually change the customer’s experience are the same everywhere, even though each admin names them differently:
- Active and, where offered, Default — Kustom Checkout only appears in the storefront when the payment method is active.
- Countries — activate only countries covered by your Kustom contract.
- Shipping and delivery methods — pick which ones may be combined with Kustom Checkout. On E37 this is the Leveranssätt tab, and on Nordisk e-handel it’s step 4 of the wizard.
- Terms and conditions URL — the checkout links to it, and several platforms require it.
- Business purchases — turn on B2B only if your Kustom account has it enabled.
- Test mode — leave it on while you test, and turn it off before you go live. On E37 this is Använd testmiljö under Inställningar.
7. Turn off test mode and go live
Section titled “7. Turn off test mode and go live”Switch the plugin to production credentials, disable test mode and confirm the payment method is still active and visible.
Check that it works
Section titled “Check that it works”Do this in test mode first, then repeat once with a low-priced real product in production.
- Open your storefront, add a product to the cart and go to checkout.
- Confirm the Kustom Checkout iframe loads without interruption and shows the payment methods you expect.
- Complete the payment.
- Confirm you’re redirected back to your store’s confirmation page.
- Confirm the order appears in your platform’s order list with the right total.
- Confirm the same order appears in the Kustom Portal, with a matching amount.
If your platform requires it — Abicart does — mark the test order as paid in the order list. Abicart finalizes the application roughly 24 hours after that, and posts a confirmation note in the admin.
Refund the production test purchase from the Kustom Portal afterwards.
Variations
Section titled “Variations”Platforms that start onboarding from their own admin
Section titled “Platforms that start onboarding from their own admin”On these platforms you don’t apply at kustom.co and you never paste credentials. You start
the application inside the store admin, the platform sends it to Kustom, and once Kustom
approves, the platform configures the payment method for you with production credentials.
| Platform | Where activation starts |
|---|---|
| 24Nettbutikk | You’re prompted to register during store activation. If you cancel, restart from Settings → Payment, where Kustom Checkout is already the default provider but not yet active |
| Abicart | Dashboard → the Apply for Kustom Checkout button in the right-hand panel. The KYC form, including bank and AML details, appears in the same place |
| Finqu | Kustom Checkout is pre-installed. Track activation under Store Admin → Payment settings |
| MyCashflow | Settings → Payment methods → Add payment method → Kustom Checkout, then submit the activation request |
| Mystore | Configuration → Payment methods → Add payment method → Kustom Checkout |
| Nordisk e-handel | Order → Payment Methods → start the automatic onboarding. New stores also ship with a demo Kustom Checkout pre-installed |
| Quickbutik | Kassa → Betalsätt → Kustom Checkout → Aktivera direkt, then choose No, create a new agreement |
| Starweb | Settings → Payment Methods → the Registrera ett konto button in the Kustom Checkout info box. This route gives you pre-negotiated pricing tied to your Starweb package |
| TimeCenter | Inställningar → Ta betalt, then the apply button. Select the calendars to connect and their VAT rates, enter the organization number, click Hämta uppgifter to prefill company data, then submit and complete KYC |
| Vilkas | Kustom Checkout is pre-installed. Enable it under your payment settings and an onboarding request goes to Kustom |
| Wikinggruppen | Select Kustom as the payment provider in the platform’s checkout settings. Wikinggruppen activates the checkout and retrieves the credentials for you |
TimeCenter’s apply button is still labelled Ansök om Klarna, and TimeCenter’s own onboarding copy still says Klarna in places. It starts the Kustom onboarding flow. Report the label to TimeCenter support if it blocks you. Don’t look for a separate Kustom button.
Two of these platforms also accept an existing agreement. On Quickbutik, choose Yes, enter details and paste your API username and password. On Vendre, enter your existing Merchant ID, API username and API password rather than applying again.
Platforms where a partner does the setup
Section titled “Platforms where a partner does the setup”On Flowvy by Confirma, activation isn’t self-service. New customers get Kustom onboarding as part of their implementation project. Existing customers ask Confirma support or their project manager to start it. You supply company details and complete KYC in the Kustom Portal, and Confirma does the technical configuration.
Litium works the same way for installation only: your Litium Solution Partner installs the Kustom payment app and builds a configuration file for your setup. After the app is configured, you still add the payment method yourself, under Settings → Globalization → Channels → your channel → Countries, per country.
Askås, Starweb and Talex all follow the Kustom-led model up to the credentials, then hand them to the partner’s team rather than typing them into an admin form. Send credentials over a channel you trust — they’re equivalent to a password.
Platforms with no plugin
Section titled “Platforms with no plugin”Brink Commerce has no Kustom plugin. Your backend collects the cart, calculates totals, creates the Kustom order through the Checkout API and renders the returned session to the customer. The Brink-specific part is only where the cart comes from — the Kustom side is exactly the flow in Create the order and Render the checkout snippet. Validate the payment status with Kustom before you mark an order paid in Brink. Don’t trust the browser redirect alone.
Norce sits between the two models. The adapter handles the API call, but you still render the
returned htmlSnippet in your own checkout frontend, and you must assign the
Kustom_checkout_adapter configuration to the right Norce channel with active: true. The
adapter also needs the four redirect URLs — redirectUrls.termsUrl,
redirectUrls.checkoutUrl, redirectUrls.confirmationUrl and
redirectUrls.validationErrorUrl — and the list of ISO 3166 alpha-2 shipping countries, for
example ["SE", "NO"].
Vilkas stores moving off Vipps MobilePay Checkout
Section titled “Vilkas stores moving off Vipps MobilePay Checkout”If your Vilkas store used Vipps MobilePay Checkout, you receive Kustom credentials directly and don’t go through the ordering process. Generate the API username and API password in the Portal as in step 4, then:
On Vilkas Suite. Go to Settings → Payment, add a new payment method of type Kustom Checkout and ignore the warning that prompts you to order credentials. Click Complete setup on the Kustom Checkout row — or I already have credentials if you land on the “Want to use Kustom Checkout?” page — and paste your values. Suite labels the username field Merchant ID. It takes the same UID the Portal issued. Save, then set the method visible on the General tab.
On Vilkas Now. Go to Settings → Payment. If Kustom Checkout isn’t in the shop yet, click its card at the top of the page and then Add. If it is, click Complete setup in the payment methods table. Ignore the activation notice, fill Username (UID) and Shared secret, tick the box accepting Kustom’s terms of delivery, save and set the method visible on the General tab.
On both, test in the storefront, then hide MobilePay Checkout rather than deleting it. Deleting the MobilePay Checkout payment method before every order placed through it has been fully processed will leave you unable to capture or refund those orders.
Troubleshooting
Section titled “Troubleshooting”The payment method doesn’t appear in the storefront. It’s almost always still inactive. Check the active flag, then check that the method is assigned to the country the customer is in and to at least one shipping method, and that your Kustom contract covers that country.
The checkout iframe doesn’t load. Confirm you’re using credentials from the environment the plugin is pointed at — playground credentials in live mode fail silently on several platforms. Then confirm your store is reachable over HTTPS from the public internet, since Kustom calls back to it.
The order total doesn’t match between the platform and Kustom. Configure the platform to display and calculate prices with two decimals. Rounding at one decimal place produces totals Kustom rejects.
Activation is stuck after the application. Sign in to the Kustom Portal and check the account status there. The platform admin often lags behind it. On Finqu you can also reinstall the payment method or restart the whole onboarding flow from Admin → Apps → Kustom → Open, under the Functions menu, which is also where you order fresh credentials.
Kustom Checkout was disabled when you switched provider. On Finqu, re-enable or reorder Kustom Checkout on the Payment settings page and follow the on-screen instructions. That restarts onboarding.
Partial cancellations aren’t possible in the store admin. They usually aren’t. On Abicart and several others, cancel the whole order from the store and handle partial cancellations in the Kustom Merchant Portal.
