Open source platform responsibility
What Kustom warrants and what you own when you run Kustom Checkout on WooCommerce, Magento, PrestaShop or OXID — platform versions, third-party code, unofficial modules and the limits of Kustom's liability.
The Kustom Checkout module ships for several open source e-commerce platforms. Open source means you can see and change everything in the stack the checkout runs inside, which is why merchants choose those platforms — and it means the boundary of what Kustom can stand behind is drawn differently than on a hosted platform. This page sets out where that line falls. It applies to WooCommerce, Magento and Adobe Commerce, PrestaShop and OXID eShop, and to any other open source platform running an official Kustom module.
You own the platform version
Section titled “You own the platform version”You are responsible for running your platform, and every module around it, at a version Kustom has confirmed compatibility with. Each platform page in this section states its supported versions. Those statements are the documentation this responsibility refers to.
Kustom does not warrant compatibility with platform or module versions outside those documented, and disclaims liability, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, for malfunctions, errors or performance degradation arising from unsupported or undocumented versions. In practice this bites at upgrade time: a major platform upgrade ahead of the module’s support for it is your risk to carry, not a support case.
Third-party code is outside Kustom’s control
Section titled “Third-party code is outside Kustom’s control”Because you have source access, the module’s behavior can be changed by platform configuration, other plugins, custom code or theme overrides — none of which Kustom can see or test against. Kustom disclaims all liability, to the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, for disruption, degradation or failure of functionality caused by such modifications, integrations or third-party dependencies.
This is not a formality. A caching plugin on the checkout page, a theme that replaces the checkout template or another payment module competing for the same hooks are the three most common causes of a checkout that “stopped working” without anyone changing the Kustom module.
Only official modules are supported
Section titled “Only official modules are supported”The Kustom Checkout module is supported only when you obtained it from Kustom’s verified distribution channels — the platform’s official marketplace listing or the Composer package named on the platform’s page here. The open source ecosystem lets anyone publish a module, including forks and lookalikes of Kustom’s own.
Kustom makes no representations and takes no responsibility for the performance, reliability or
security of any module it did not develop and distribute. If you’re not certain a module is
official, ask merchant@kustom.co before you deploy it to a live store. A payment module handles
money and personal data. The cost of checking first is very low compared with the alternative.
Limitation of liability
Section titled “Limitation of liability”To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Kustom assumes no liability for performance issues, service interruptions, data incidents, security vulnerabilities or other damages arising from the use of third-party or unofficial integrations, or from a failure to maintain a supported platform configuration. Such integrations and configurations are used at your own risk.
Nothing here limits liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory law, including under applicable data protection legislation.
If you are not sure
Section titled “If you are not sure”Check the supported versions on your platform’s page in this section, and contact
merchant@kustom.co before you go live if anything about your configuration is unusual — an
unusual version combination, a heavily modified checkout template or a module you can’t confirm
the provenance of.
